Question A Cooling Question?

I have an '85 F-150 SWB 4X4 with a 302 & a 5-speed tranny. I also have 33X12.50X15 tires and wheels on it. Right now it has a clutch fan on it with an oversize two core aluminum radiator. I was thinking about changing over to electric fans. Would this change help me or hurt me?

There might be a slight advantage if you do a lot of high speed interstate driving, were you do not need fans. Otherwise you are just wasting money, and the stock clutch fan works very well in and around town.

That is if the clutch fan is working properly. And at that age it should have been changed out by now.

if you go with the electric fans be sure to hook them up to a thermostat so they aren't running constantly.

I run my electric fan (single 12 inch) with a toggle switch. I draws 13 amps and moves 2200 cfm. I have been very happy with it. Quicker warm up times, a small amount of the "seat of the pants" effect and a bit of a fuel economy increase but nothing all that noticable. The motor also runs quieter and smoother and I gained a ton of under hood space which is really nice. As it is I rarely turn on the fan so it has really been worth it for me.

I do a mixed combination of freeway and city driving but I don't do much gridlock bumper to bumper driving.

Eco...if getting ready to do the same...do you use a shrouded or unshrouded fan?
