coughing black smoke

went on a 50 mile trip yesterday & everything seemed normal but coming home the truck ran rough & intermitantly coughed black smoke.
I'm going to unplug the egr & go from there any other tips would be helpful

I have an 05 CC SRW w/ 64k and I just disconnected the egr. Tip in from 60 mph it would buck and blow black smoke real bad. Hasn't done it since.

You both should remove and clean the EGR valves, unplugged is OK but the EGR valve could be stuck and open partially.

I'm gonna do that friday. Getting ready to go out for 6 months and have to get everything squared away. Do you have to replace the O rings or (if they are still good) can you reuse the old ones?

Try not to damage the o-rings when pulling it out, the EGR is hard to break out sometimes if you are doing it for the first time.

Maxium, Thanks for the info.

gb, The removal instructions are in the tech folder. Pretty straight forward.
