My wife is getting me exhaust for fathers day but I'm new to this diesel truck thing. First should I get 4" or 5" exhaust? Second Cat back or cat delete? I have heard if I go with the cat delete that Ford won't honor my power train warranty and that it could cause my turbo to fail.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I think the vast majority here are getting the turbo back 4" MBRP exhaust. As far as the cat goes that is up to you. You can get the cat delete pipe and then pull it and install the cat back into the system if you have to get the truck serviced. I have been told it is a simple 10-20 minute job.
You should probably check with your service department to find out if changing the downpipe will be an issue. Most of them are ok with it, but there are some that aren't. I probably wouldn't mention anything about the cat to them as that is where the vast majority of the service departments have issues. I don't think they care so much about not having a cat as far as causing damage to the vehicle (becuase it won't) as they do about getting fined for working on a vehicle that has had the cat removed.
bones, I am in the same situation and I'm planning on going with a 4" cat-back exhaust because it leaves the catalytic converter in place. If you take out the cat, then yes, Ford can void your 5yr/100k mile powertrain warranty and that's not something I want to lose. A lot depends on what you're wanting to do with your truck and what kind of power you're willing to make. A 4" turbo-back is good for up to about 400-450hp and the 5" turbo-back is needed if you want to make more power than that. I have no intention of going beyond a towing tune and so I think a 4" cat-back will work best for what I want. Also, get Stainless Steel (not aluminized!!)! T409 is common and cheaper SS, but if you can find a true T304, it is the best stainless steel.
