I am running 2 coolers on my 97, and I use synthetic fluid. You can get one with a fan on it. I am cinsidering it. I can still hit 210. My truck loaded is 14k and I pull 10-12k more at times.
i know this is kinda off-topic but where did you guys put your trans temp sending units??? i'm in the process of doing my EGT/boost/trans temp this weekend and i can't figure out if i should put the trans in the pan or in the tranny cooler (looks like it has one) thanks
Mine is plugged into the drivers side of the tranny housing. I am sure that some of the heat is transferred from the block into the tranny, but heat is heat.
Glasseater I took the 1/8 plug out of the trans and install the sending unit there. I ran the wires threw the rubber plug under the carpet driver side. I hope this helps you.
Same, pulled the plug out of the trans and installed the temp gage in that location.
Your temps justify a cooler, 180 is normal, every consistant 10 degrees hotter after 180, cuts ATF fluid life by half. Occasional temp spikes like if you pull up a hill and cools down after back on flat land does little for oil life.
I am thinking about moving my sending unit below to the drain plug as I already have a threaded plug for the sending unit. I would like to see the difference in temps in that location.
The other issue is that it is ONLY 80's here right now, but it will be climbing soon to the mid to upper 90s. I think I need to upgrade the cooler very soon. I just had my tranny rebuilt and would like to get some miles out of it.
