I have an 85 352W Duraspark ll w/auto trans. When cold it runs great for first 1 1/2 to 2 miles but if I come to a stop in traffic at the 1 1/2 to 2 mile point it will normally stall. RPM drops to zero but it will restart and after about 10 to 20 seconds at a low idle it jumps back to normal idle and will run like a top the rest of the day. I switched carbs (went to a weber) and removed/plugged all the smog equipment to assure it wasn't a vacuum leak but it still drops RPM at the idle but at least now it doesn't die. Choke works perfect. Heat tube and heat riser are working. If I idle in driveway for same amount of time it will drop RPM and then quickly run back to normal idle but it's like someone throws a switch and she will run great the rest of the day. Considered electronic module but I'm told they don't fail that way. Parts guy thought it might be a gas pump/filter/tank problem. I do have a hole in upper part of tank so gas is at atmospheric pressure all the time.
That could be the problem. I know the tank is old original and I couldn't find an inline filter between the tank and fuel pump. Crap could be gettin in the line. I'll try and replace the tank (seeing it leaks when full) and blowing out the fuel line which half is hard tube and the other half is plastic.
