Clutch slave leaking

Last night I found out that my clutch slave in my 93 3.0L is leaking when I had no pedal. After looking at the process of getting to it, and not having a lot of time or garage to do the work, I called and got a price of about $800 ($400 labor + about $400 for slave - $125, clutch kit $225, etc.). Does this sound like a lot? How many hours or labor is required by a professional and how many hours by a novice would it take to do the job? I put a clutch in my toyota years ago, but I was much younger then.

labor ssounds about right, a slave cyl (not OEM) will run less than $100 (I just put a lifetime in from autozone $55), a OEM Replacement clutch is around $250, the OEM (ford) pilot bearing is $35, Comes with the kit from Autozone as does the Throwout bearing which also comes on their SC!

iF you pull the trans do the clutch while it is out, makes more sense in the long run. I bought the AZ lifetime clutch several back, exchange no questions at any time. Now put their slave in as the last 2 were name brand and I just had the last go out after about 40000 miles.

Mine is a 4.0 but I guess the 3.0 is about the same, figure if you have the tools and jacks that it can be done in a weekend longer if you dont have the jack stands and floor jacks to work with, and some air tools. Biggest thing for me when I did it the 1st time was to get the swivel sockets and a 30 inch long extension to reach the upper bolts.

Thank for the input. If I had a garage I do it myself, but even doing it in the driveway would be a big pain in the butt - it's driveway stone - and the street is too dangerous. I need to build a big garage.
