I replaced the tie rod s and drag link and cant get the drivers side tie rod to tighten in the knuckle.. its egged out... is there a fix or somthing to this problem without replacing the knuckle???
I've tried bushing that Ray but it didn't hold as I used brass. I'd replace it. Not that big a job. A Machine shop can weld it up and redo it as well but a used one would be cheaper.
Not sure what the term "edged" is, but I am assuming that the hole is no longer round.
I had a truck at the shop that had a similar problem, and I made a larger tappered hole and used a slightly larger (G.M.) tie rod end. Easy to do, if you have the tool to make the taper.
I have also seen the holes drilled out, and use rod ends.
How tall is your truck? Is it time to do a complete crossover steering, and maybe a highsteer? might be cheaper in the long run. This would be a good time to upgrade instead of buying the same stuff, you could apply that money to a nice modification.
Are you sure you have the right part, if the taper is to long the nut will bottom on the threads and it won't tighten. I have seen this on ends as well as ball joints, if it was tight before how would it have changed? Check that part! My advice.
no it was lose before.. i thought it was the tie rod but it was the hole... so i shimmed it with washers to tighten it in the over sized hole and it worked for about a mile.. and its loose again.. do yuou have the specs (like degrees?) on the GM TAPER? i could get a gm tierod and taper the hole bigger..... my truck is stock height. stock suspension.. i could not fit crossover steering on it..
if all else fails i will have to heim joint it i would rather have a tie rod though..
I have been told to use a chevy tie rod end as it is bigger.. the tapered reamer size is 1.5" per foot.. so if anyone else is looking to repair worn holes here is the solution..
