i just ordered the autospring add a leaf and got it in the mail today. i will try and install it this weekend if i have time and post some pics of it after.
A add a leaf would be the best thing to do, and new u bolts should also be used.
The AS kit doesnt come with new U-bolts and says it doesnt need them. Is it necessary to replace them with larger ones? If so, how much larger is necessary?
No it isn't 100% necessary, b/c the old ones will still fit and work fine, but they are torqued down very tight and they stretch b/c of this. This weakens the ubolts, and can cause them to fail.
Remember they are the only thing holding your axle under your truck, other than shocks, and shocks won't hold that axle to good if the u bolts go.
Ok, that's why they should be replaced, but there are A LOT of people that reuse them. I reused my u bolts on my 77 F100 when I put some F150 springs under it about 3 years ago with no problems so for, but that doesn't make it right.
I seriously doubt they'll break/fail on you, but I was just making a point it should be done.
I did use new u bolts on my 79 Bronco, b/c I knew I'd be doing some hard off roading with it, and didn't want to take a chance.
