Hey, I have a 95 Bronco and I was sick of it being Quite! So i did something about it. I cut the muffler off and put a piece of stainless straight pipe in its place. I want to get a whole exhaust system including headers, but due to a need for a Brake Job, The Exhaust has to be put off for a little while longer. I have everything done and i was thinking, Will this help or hurt the truck? The stock muffler looks really ristricted and i did not touch the cats. I was going to punch those out but i got to thinking that it would be insanly loud and i would get in trouble with the coppers. I know with the dual exhaust and headers its not going to be quite either. But with this straight pipe it sounds just perfect. Nice little rumble. So back to the question, Is it ok?
Wont hurt a thing. When you do run the duals and headers it will not be much louder as long as you leave the stock cats in place. Go for it! And I suggest an X pipe with the duals.
yea that would be ok but with my cracked exhaust manifolds i got to get headers. Id rather run just three inch off the headers, no cats, to 40 series and 3 1/2 chrome tips.
3" off the headers would hurt low rpm power. and for a heavy bronco that is not a good idea.
get a set of shortie headers like gibson, jba, edelbrock, bbk or bassani then run the bassani Y pipe. this y pipe flows awesome and is 3" out so and can be either the offroad version (no cats) or regular with hi flowcats. then run 3" single setup out stock location. this will give you the best hp/trq gains for your setup.
Duals and large pipes are meant for hi rpm hi hp motors which yours is neither.
Not wishing to Hijack your converstaion here, but the sake of clarity - are you suggesting the best option is to run a simple pipe out after the cats? i.e. no muffler/ Silencer? I'd fancy this myself.
Would this still give an applicable performance lift using stock headers and cat? Or is it only worth it with after market high flow headers and cats.
the stock manifolds and y pipe are very restrictive. if you dont change those and only change the exhaust from the cat back you will have basicly wasted money.
I ran what you have now for 3 yrs, just cut the muffler off and ran a pipe. Ran great till I built up the motor and needed more. I just got the beast back from the shop. True 2.5" duals from the headers back ran me 350, I already had the mufflers. Love it, runs and sounds great, would definitally do it again. I had the same prob with the manifolds cracking, put Ford racing shorties on there and am pleased so far.
Ive had the pipe on there for a couple of days, I noticed alot of a little loss of power on take off. I think its because i have some pretty bad cracked manifolds. Also i had some bad carbon build up in the throttle body, it was a city truck so alot of stop and go. I put Intake and Injector cleaner in the tank and it starts up alot easyier. I also bought carb and choke cleaner and this weekend im gonna spray some on a rag and try to get in there as much as i can. Whats this about a Basanti system? Anyone got a link to the kit, And also what headers should i get. I like BBK but i want to keep it under 160 for a pair. I will look on summit racing. com
dont buy cheap headers you will regret it big time. the summit brand are pour quality. if you want the headers to last, perform and seal well jba, gibson, bbk, bassani are all great brands. dont skimp in this department.
also do not use carb cleaner on the throttle body. you must use throttlebody cleaner there is a difference.
speedway dont sell junk! if ya want to pay thru the nose just for a name thats up to you! most parts are made by the same people they just have someone elses name brand on them speedway has been into hot rods + parts for a long time! just cause ya dont see'em on tv dont meen they're not a major supplier! i'm new to 4+4's not high performance, my point is cheap price do'nt alway's meen cheap part's! research a company before you buy from them! not everyone want's to make a fast buck! some want to make repeat customer's
I run 3" exhaust from the y pipe to the tail pipe. High flow cat and flow mater 50. You'll see a pic of it in this months Bronco Driver. I have the builds on my site but can't post the links here.
speedway doesnt have headers that would work for our rigs, and the build your own headers is a bit out of most peoples ability on this site. also for many they must be smog legal which by that sites most if not all are not.
now i am sure those headers shown are made very well for a hotrod stand point just not for a bronco/f150 etc otherwise they would advertise that on there site.
