i had previously posted that i bought another 55 for the cab and doors, well ...... i just sold my 97 gmc to finance the purchase of my new daily driver . i was told about this vehicle by a neighbor who knows what i'm into . i go look and right on the spot the deal is made . it is a 54 f 100 that has been in storage for the last 22 years . it has a quarter size rust hole in the left rear cab corner , some rust in the bottom edge of the rear fenders a dent in the hood and some small rust holes in the leading edge of the hood . the left rubber portion of the front cab mount is collapsed. it has some later rims on it now as the owner was gonna fix it up . it is replete with original sweet running V-8 flattie and threespeed , and yes it fired right up and the only reason you can't drive it is it has a blown brake cylinder . it was just converted to 12 volt upon being drug out of hibernation . i paid 2700 for her and will have it home early next week and cannot wait to get some pics up so you all can tell if i was just mad or whatever . some of the people here in my life just can't commprehend why i'd give up all the creature comforts for an old green ford with an antiquated motor . they just don't have a clue .
the ol' boy i got it from gave me all sorts of parts etc. including a 302 and automatic he was gonna put in it . how in the world can you pull a flathead that runs ? my son in law was with me and he wants a flattie for his 55 { i gave him the 55 frame w/ monte carlo front clip , my old cab two sets of doors new roof section , , 351 and auto etc. etc. } as he thinks they are the coolest thing . me thinks chevy boy is seeing the light !!!!!! i'll keep the antiquated stuff . you ain't ever gonna be able to wipe the smile off of my face !!!!
i don't know what or how the flattie got there as i thought the y block made itd debut in 54 but i'm sure not gonna complain and she looks like she belongs there for sure . i know many of the car manufacturers used to use up their available supply of parts before switching over to the new " thing " if you will . i had , many moons ago a 65 impala ss with a 409 and that was the case with this car . gm used up the w engines before puttin' in the 396 .
you know what merten i just looked at your gallery and by god i'm wondering if the one i just puchased isn't a 53 as your's grille looks jus' like this ones right down to the v8 emblem. the trim on the hood looks the same too. hmmm think i'll wander back over there today and find out .
55f350, The cool thing about the '53 is that it is the 50th anniversary of the Ford Motor Co., the first year of the "new" body style, first year for the F100 designation, and the last year for the famous flathead eight. Look for a commemorative 50th horn button.

55F350--that was a great swap!! I have told all my friends that I will gladly drive old iron instead of new plastic-LOL--I think maybe that is a 53 with the flattie!!I am envious, and trucks in that case are hard to find!!!Bill
i'll drive as long as it's not really crappy out so im figuring i'll tuck it away around late november to mid december then i'll find a pos or drive her ugly freakin' lil pt and pray someone hits it . just cant wait to get it home though and get it on the road and enjoy it . i'll have three of them sitting for awhile but my neighbor's have given up i think . i'm incurable and alway's gonna have something follow me home .
