I'd mount it on the frame rail, either driver's or passenger side (or both!) about midway between front and rear wheels. I've already looked for a place for a battery box, and a 10-gallon air tank. Lots of room under there.

Ford offered right and left lockable tool boxes from 1961 thru 1972. These went into the bed sides in front of the wheels. A rare option seen more on 1961/66's then the later years.

Sorry, I was a UNIX systems administrator for a defense contractor a few years back, administering ProEngineer, CADDS5, and a few other piddly things. I think I still have a valid license for ProE around here somewhere.
I could always shove it through ANSYS and see what it's thermodynamic properties are at Mach 2. OK, too much information
