Remove all the electronic stuff for the 4wd and go to a manuel shifter. The electronic portion is DOA and I have started to throw money at it with no results.
I just bought the truck, 1994 Bronco Auto w/ 351c. Nice shpe but no 4WD.
I have RELACED the relay in the distrubution bix and tested all the fuses that are part of the system. The local Ford dealer is of no help as far as where to look and they WILL NOT work on one THAT OLD
I wouldn't go to that dealer..........................ever!!!
Anything's possible.
To do that you would need to replace the trans. case with a manual shifter, cut a hole in the floor, get a shifter and boot, and wire up an indicator light. It's alot to go through unless you really want the manual case for use.
To fix the one you have, find out if you have power and ground going to the shift solenoid, if you do then the solenoid will probably be at fault but it could be worse. If there is no power, then you need to start working on the circuit and find out why.
Yes, I agree - test the motor first. Take it off the xfer case and see if it actuates with with the button off the case. If it does then maybe its just your xfer case mechanism that is stiff (so many of them start to bind through lack of use). Free it up and you'll be laughing. If the motor is shot then either overhaul it or for you US based chaps buy a new one.
First of all, claycts, welcome to FTE. Your question is very popular. Look at the top menu bar for Forums then select search. If you wish you can search both Bronco and F-150 simultaneously by holding Ctrl and clicking more than one selection. You did not mention this so remember for 4L stop, put transmission in Neutral, punch 4H then punch 4L. When I got mine it took several attemps over a couple of days and it has worked great ever since.
I am in the same boat that he is in, or same bronco. MY actuator has broken off and I am not getting power to the connector that would connect to the actuator. I was trying to figure out a way to ghetto rig up a shifter for the t-case, but not really coming up with any ideas.
Why not just buy a new actuation (by which I assume you mean motor and gearbox assembly). I wouldn't have thought they'd be more than 20-30 bucks in the USA.
No power to the connector is a matter of chasing cables and checking terminals for power till you find the fault. Do you have the wiring diagrams? I can supply.
Thanks for the reply's.
The BS story I got from the owner was when a person test drove the truck he wanted to go off road to test the 4WD it worked then and they Forgot to take it out of 4WD and drove back to his house at 75 MPH and it then stopped working. Hes daid that it would just CLICK and not go in. The other part of the BS was that if I pushed the 4 hi it took 24 hours to RESET. I belived ZERO of what he said and gave in $3K for the truck and will fix it myself.
Being it is a 94 5.8 EB with 82K miles and everything elses being in great shape I was not worried about getting burned.
Will attack the problem today.
Take Care

I just swapped auto out for a manual setup I had waiting . Seems I spent every other week end playing fix it. Now I pull handle and go. And it just cost a rebuild kit.

Where did you get it? I Have a 1994 351c will it fit that or does it matter on the engine side?
