Please help. I'm changing the AT filter in my daughters 2000 MM (5.0) with AWD. When I removed the filter from the bottom of the transmission, a piece that looks like a top, cream in color, with an o-ring around the larger end fell out. I understand that there are a couple of different types of filters used on these trucks. Mine is the type that is kidney shaped, and has an angled pick-up tube on the bottom.
I have no idea where it came out from, but I suspect that it goes in the top of the filter tube. But if it does go in there, I don't know which end goes up.
I've never done any transmission work on this truck before, so I don't have a manual for it. Any help, or diagram that shows how this goes together would be greatly appreciated.
my "GUESSTAMENT ONLY IS" that would be the factory "Plug" in the hole where the dipstick tube goes in, i believe that the assembly workers just push the tube in and the plug falls into the transmission pan , it causes no known problems that i know of.. "BUT ONLY A GUESSTAMENT"
It is a piece that ends up in the tranny pan at the factory. Do a search on this forum (in the transmission section) and you will find a bunch of comments on this...nothing to worry about, just toss it.
Thanks a bunch for the info. I guess that this is a good indicator that the transmission hasn't ever been serviced. The truck has 125,000 miles on it so this doesn't make me very happy.
The fluid was not horribly discolored, and didn't smell abnormal at all so I'm hoping that the transmission will live a while longer. I guess it's a good thing that I had already planned on doing a 100% fluid flush.
