i bought one of them and the feet or whatever they are called that are supposed to hold it in when you tighten the bolt are a little short it seems. it doesnt hold it in, if i try to really tighten it it pops out the hole is round and not damaged or warped.
any ideas? should i just junkyard hunt for an oem one?? i found it is easy to get the wire in the cab by hand so that was nice. but i want to get my truck mostly done this year and would like a radio even if i cannot hear it over the exhaust.
I see a nice looking one at Dennis Carpenter with "air foiled shaped". It has the rect. base with four screws like the original. My older catalog has it for $70.00, could be higher now.
could i just buy the mount and use the one i have or do i need an oem style antenna???
You might look for an original antenna mast. The stub of the old antenna will only take this type of mast.
Something else to consider. The basic antennas are all the same except for the length of the cable. Only the actual base is different to conform to the shape of the sheet metal. Look for Ford passenger cars from 1966 thriugh 1979. Same antenna as used on the trucks.

EDIT: FTE sponsor GREEN SALES (800-543-4959) has one of these original masts in stock..the mast is obsolete from Ford

I like the more modern tapered stainless steel whip masts.
Just in time for some worthless trivia.
Ever wonder why the new antennas have those coils wrapped on them? When the new Explorers came out in 1991, buyers complained about a wind whistle. It was the antenna! Wrapping the antennas (or is that antennae?) with the coils ended the problem.

how about fabbing up a 3' firestick CB antenna to work with a radio, i have the info and parts list. i may just go that route since this is primarily an off road truck/hobby truck. but ill keep my eye out for a cheaper one on ebay and salvage yards.
I don't remember what kind of antenna my 91 Exploder had. Never heard a whistle from the antenna, but then I hear a whistle all the time, -Tinnitus, a side-effect of some oral medications, such as aspirin. A permanent side effect tho... -grrrr

Join the club, had it for years. One of the causes is being around machinery like compressors, and impact wrenches for years, so the doc told me.
