I'm going to attempt to insert one of the cobrapack packed 3" I/O 22" into my system. It's got a 5.4L, stock manifolds with a single flowmaster 40 series right now and no cat or resonator. It's too loud in my opinion. I'll post a sound clip of the cobrapack/Flowmaster combo afterward. First I'll have to replace a broken manifold stud first. This may lead to a full manifold to header swap, but I'm going to try to hold off on that until a little later.
I'm picking up a single 24" Classic Chambered Cobrapack with 2.5" interior throat and 4" outer body dia. and grafting it infront of the existing Flowmaster to temper and tune the sound level. I'm gonna use a pair of Accuseal clamps temporarily to feel it out before making it permanent.

A Dynomax Bullet or similar perforated tube resonator would yield better performance than a chambered tube that'll disrupt the flow in addition to the flowmaster.
I ended up installing a Cobrapack muffler ahead of the Flowmaster in about the same place as the cat had been. It's a 24" 2.5 I/O with a 2.5 in clear path through inside. It is a perforated type but has packing to deaden some of the sound. My problem with the Flowmaster only system was it was too loud and had a raw, cackley sound that I couldn't take. Afterward, it sounded much quieter and had a deeper sound I like. I wanted to try the Cobrapack by itself, but didn't have enough time this last weekend to experiment. I wouldn't think that the full open exhaust through to the Flowmaster was the best combination for performance for a stock truck without any additional mods, too much flow and loss of low end grunt, my 2 cents.
Anyway, Classicchamber's service was great. Email them if you have any questions or requests. Eric was great to work with.
I tried to take a before sound clip. If I can get it onto my PC, I'll post. I haven't recorded the after clip yet, but I plan to.
I did have the 2.5" ID I/O expanded to 3" OD to fit into the existing exhaust. Worked out good with the Accuseal clamps. You need to cut slots at the end of the pipe so the clamp can grip. It sounds good and no leaks. The manifold is another issue.
Here's the muffler before install. I posted the pic of the manifold quick fix as well.
Ok, if you are looking for flow, don't go the turbo tubes, they suck. Classic Chambered ones are straight through same as a magnaflow or glasspack, they use chambers instead of glass. Flowmasters do the exact opposite of what thier name implies, they do not flow well at all. the stupid flow directors just disrupt the crap out of it and smash the exhaust around all over inside the muffler. I love people's replies to my question "why Flowmaster?" "they just work, magnaflow is crap, straight through is worse for power" Sorry if I offend anyone by saying flowmasters are the biggest joke of all the mufflers on the market.
