Hi. I own a 92 F150 4x4, 351w, and E4od tranny. I like the setup so far minus the auto locking hubs. But my ? is what can i do to get a little more peformance out of it without having to mess with the engine management, besides a chip. I bought the truck from the original owner in february with 190000 miles, now i have close to 200000 miles and it runs strong. Is there a product out there that will allow me to adjust shift points for the tranny? How big of a cam can i use without having to buy a new computer. can i put lightning heads on it and use the stock intake plenum and computer. I am looking for about 300 hp or more. Dont worry, i dont plan on putting new parts on an old motor, this would all be involved with a complete rebuild. Any and all advice would be appreciated. thanks.
wouldnt a crate cost way more than a simple build up? Ive seen some that run close $4000 for what im looking for. plus i think i would have more satisfaction having done it myself.
Sounds like some good advice. Firearmtom how difficult is it to install the MSD system? I have neverinstalled one before. And how much do they run pricewise. I have thought about supercharging but will it take major tweaking to the EEC IV management system and what kind of charger should i use Eaton roots or centrifugal like a vortec? Thanks.

I have the MSTD stuff, I think it makes things smoother but never really noticed a performance increase from that.
For me, same year and engine truck you have, I bolted my vortec supercharger on and that was it. Never had to tweak the computer at all. I have had more trouble with my alternator or starter than I have had with the supercharger.
My vortec certainly isn't the most powerful out there but for the price and no maintenance, I just love it.
You can get an MSD box about anywhere. MSD6 or MSD6AL are the most popular with tinkerers. I bought one on ebay for a decent price (about $150 new in box), or you can always try summit. Summit is awesome, good prices, super fast shipping, and probably the best tech support I've experienced. www.summitracing.com.
