76 F250 w/ slideout spare tire carrier. Well I have two tanks. Both bed mounted. I think the rear tank has a clogged pickup screen. The truck runs fine on that tank till you get to about 45mph. It starts to cut out due to starvation.
Can I change the screen out without dropping the tank?
I think I've seen a diagram out there that shows a side mounted sending unit.
I haven't crawled under yet. Was just wondering if anybody'd tried it.
Redneck method number 2: Take an axe and make three slices in a u-shaped pattern directly over the sending unit / pick up area in the floor of the bed. Then fold it back along the forth side, revealing the area to be worked on. Probably would be better to use an air nibbler, since the axe could cause one heck of a boom!! HAhaha
I then replaced the sending unit and folded it back over and put the Duraliner back in the bed. Looks great, can't even tell I worked on it.
Did I mention the truck was one of the worst rust buckets ever and not long for the world.
Not Highly Recommended.
I know! that's just not right!

While you are replacing the filter screen (part number listed above), replace the float too. They are made from two pieces of copper soldered together, Over the years, solder breaks down, fuel seeps into float, float sinks to bottom of tank.NOTE: There are two of these screens...if getting one from an autoparts store, buy the one with the LARGEST inside diameter. (the smaller one fits pintos and mavericks)

the way i did it was pull the piece of hose from the sending unit to the solid like off at the solid line, blow into the filler neck to get a siphon going and just let the gas drain out the hose. i used a shop vac to blow into the fliller neck but be careful if you pressureize the tank and then pull the vaccuum hose off real quick it will shoot gas back out the filler neck. after it was drained i pulled the 4 bolts for the straps and let it fall.

i went and looked at a truck other day that was for sale , and looked in the bed and somebody had done this ... my daddy said " well its got a new fuel pump "
I just had to pull the tank from my 79 f100 and it was a pain! Some one suggested using an electric fuel pump and to lengths of long hose to siphon it into another car. I sure wish that would have occurred to me before I sucked up a mouth full of gas trying to get the siphon going! That's a heck of an idea with the shop vac!
Well I'll probably use the fuel pump method and just pump the gas into the front tank (through a filter of course). Gotta let the front tank run to empy first though. What's that take... about 2 days? haha
Anybody know what the capacity of the rear tank is? it's at 3/4 full and I never have filled it up yet (been driving on the front since I bought it). The front is about 15 gal.

It will be contiune to be full. The dual tank is a constant system.
