I have read more than a few posts about people towing up long mountain grades in second gear at 60 MPH - "the v10 loves to run free at high RPMs".
If the TCC doesn't lock up in second doesn't this generate excessive trans. temps? Are there any after market products that will lock the TCC in second? Are they safe?
When I had a 'burban, there were lot's of after market gadgets and specialty chips that would allow the TCC to lockup under more diverse conditions.
Depending on speed, ambient temps, weight, condition of tranny fluid & cooler etc. etc. it shouldn't over heat in 2nd. However, it may also not pull as well with the TC locked at certain speeds.
I know its a dumb ques, but if u don't mind me asking, what is a tcc?
Torque Converter Clutch. Part of the drive line that is responsible for providing the "slip" required to allow the engine to run, while the vehicle is in gear but not moving. Located within the transmission.
At highway speeds, the "slip" represents lost energy in the form of heat resulting in lower MPG and higher transmission fluid temperatures. To increase efficencies, the Torque Converters is equiped with a Clutch that is engaged by the Powertrain Control Module to eliminate slip, resulting in more of the engine's torque reaching the drive wheels and less heat build up.
