Catalytic Conv Removal

I have two small cracks in my catalytic converter, the one further back, on 85 F150, C6, 2 wheel drive. I'm trying to get it out to have it welded by friend, and am having a heck of a time. I unhooked it from the mainfod, and seperated it from the muffler, but because of its length and winding nature, it is a real PITA. Do I need to loosen and shift the transmission support brackets? I thought I could support tranny with jack to do this. Any other ideas? The cracks are very small, maybe 1" each.
Thank You

Depending on HOW the cracks formed, like if they were blown out due to a backfire, you'll need a new catalytic converter. Also, consider the fact that if they're the originals, they're 22 years old and need to be replaced soon anyway. In either case, I'd just bite the bullet, save some $$ and go get a high-performance exhaust system installed for your truck with new cats and let the shop worry about it.
