95 Chevy lumina 3.1
My stepson was having a problem with overheating. First off if you have hands bigger than a three year old good luck. I had to take the the entire top of the motor off just to see where the leak was coming from. After I pulled the injectors I was able to see where the leak was coming from. The good thing was it was not the intake or head gaskets. It turns out there is a threaded piece that screws into the thermostat housing. From this there is a small tube that slides into that part. This tube is held in by a plastic clip!!!!!!!!
After taking it all apart, I could tell someone had it apart before me. The problem was when they put the new O ring and clip on, they did not unscrew the threaded part to check for debris. I have never seen such a poor setup in my life. It's like the cooling system was an after thought. They even have two bleeder screws, because there is no way to fill the system without them.
I can't wait to change the plugs. The way I understand it, you have to roll the motor over to get at the back plugs. Woo Hoo!

I remember replacing a coolant bypass fitting on my buddy's 88 Granprix, 2.8 liter. Small plastic fitting the screwed in the intake. It managed to break clean off flush with the intake. After hours of yelling and screaming i ended up taking a sawsall blade and sawed into the center of the fitting and twisted it out. at least they [gm] got smart and made the replacement out of metal.
Doing a tuneup on that car was a royal pain. He reached his skinny arm in and got the front 3 plugs done. we had to loosen all the motor mounts and push the engine forward to reach the back three. The motor jumped back violently into place once, almost took his arm off. I ended up laying across the front of the car pulling the engine forward with both hands, while he reached in and got the back 3 plugs done.
doing the back plugs is not bad. Just wedge a 2x4 between motor and firewall holding it forward or you can buy the "special" tool that bolts in place of one of the mounts and holds motor forward
there is a trick to getting those back plugs (used to work for a chev dealership) take the dog bone motor mounts off, if you have one that has a hole cast into the middle of it (hard to explain but if you have it you will see what I am talking about easily) put a bolt through it into the mount, if not take the dogbone clear out using a pry bar in the engine mount roll engine forward and put a bolt through both mounts together it will hold the engine rolled forward.
You think that engine is bad go play with one of the 3.4L in a lumina.

Never mind, went back to old school configuration. I took out the slip fitting.(for lack of a better word) and installed a 5/8 barb x 1/2 in. mip fitting. Then all I had to do was put a double 5/8 barb to connect to the heater hose.
Atleast I know that little piece of crap plastic fitting is no longer there to worry about.
