charging problems

Hi I have a 1990 Bronco with the 351 and I am looking for some help on the electrical system. I have replaced the battery and the alternator, yet when I am at a idle I can watch my battery gage go down almost to the red when I have my heater on full. I installed a quality strong battery and a heavy duty alternator, but this didn't to the trick. all is fine at driving speeds when my rpm's are up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

My 88 Bronco does the same thing and has since it was new. Ford gauges are largely symbolic. I think your indications are pretty normal and nothing to worry about.

yes..mullet is correcto...try a vom in the cab to see what the actual voltage is while you drive.
also..guess you have new batty + and ground cables too..i used welder's cables...much better than buying the expensive ready made cables..esp for the long eng and frame grounds
