I am installing an older Clifford Smart Remote Starter III in my 01 F250 with factory remote keyless entry. Instructions are pretty vague but I slowly got through it spending an hour or two on it every few days. Good news is it works great and like it is supposed to. The only thing I haven't finished is hooking up the wires to lock/unlock the doors.
I have the following 6 wires listed in the remote start wiring diagram:
door lock Common
door lock normally open
door lock normally closed
door unlock common
door lock normally open
door lock normally closed
I'm totally lost at this point. I don't think I need to hook up all wires. But I don't know which ones I would need to hook up. I also read to hook up to a Pink/yellow and pink/green wire in a molex plug to the right of the steering column. I tried this but then found out these two wires are 12 volts all the time.
Any help or links to helpful pages are welcome, Thanks
You usually have a relay kit for Fords. The Ford lock is really a little motor where the polarity is reversed for lock or unlock. So you have to have some relays that do the polarity switching, and your remote system triggers the added relays. See if you can do a search on the internet about Fords and the relays.
I got it working. You were both kind of right with the relays. Thanks Franklin2 with the search tip. I found a site "the12volt.com" whis has a ton of info for car alarms, stereo's, remote starters, and a lot of other things. And just as helpfl as the guys on this website. MisterCMK's drawing is correct for most Ford's. Luckily I already have the keyless entry (key fobs) and thus the truck already has the relays I just needed to figure out which two wires on the remote start to splice into the P/Y and P/G on the truck, (found in either the kick panels, or the grey molex plug to the right of the gas pedal)( I used the grey plug) which two wires to ground, and wich two wires to ignore. After getting a quick response on a question I asked I had the thing finished as quick as I could splice/solder two wires and crimp.solder another two.
In case anyone having a similar problem finds this thread in a search this is the answer to most Ford vehicle locks with keyless entry.
Lock and unlock normally closed are not used.
Both normally open go to ground.
lock common goes to the (-)pink/yellow lock wire of the car.
unlock common goes to the (-)pink/green unlock wire of the car.
