My Excursion recently developed a low frequency rumbling. It comes on at 50-55 mph and stays around until 75-80 mph, above which it generally seems to be OK. It doesn't really change pitch or tone with speed. It doesn't vibrate the steering wheel, just shakes the whole damn truck.
I thought it might be a tire issue, but I've rotated and swapped the spare in and out to no avail.
I've had bearings checked out, all OK.
It's an '02 7.3L with 83K miles.
Oh, today on the way home, the transmission OD Off light started flashing. Coincidence? Related?
I was thinking u-joint. While driving today at low speeds, 25-30, I would lift off the accelerator and then stab it gently. I got a pretty noticeable clunk each time.
