New Guy Needs Help

Hi all,

I just recently (last week) bought an 87 XLT.

I wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions.

I live in south central PA, and don't really need 4wd all the time, but it's nice to have when needed. I also plan on doing a little wheeling after working out all the issues with it.

I have a really strange tach. Normally it runs up to 3400rpm and sticks there unless I go over and then it follows, until I lower rpm and then it sticks at 3400 again. However, on ocassion it has worked properly until I got the rpm higher than 3400 and then it sticks. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

What sends the signal to the "EMISS" light? Mine is on constantly with the ignition on. What do I need to do, in order to get it turned off again?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Sincerely, Allan

PS. This is a great website!

Well, I'm not as sharp as some of the guys on here, but an emiss light is probably a sensor problem, going to your exaust, depending on the vehicle, since most don't have an emiss light, (i don't think) they just have an engine light, and either of these lights will come on when an oxygen sensor goes bad which, i guess is pretty common, I had a '91 F250 351, and the engine light would come on sometimes, and go back out, most of the time it was out.
Anyways, don't quote me, it's just an idea, I hope someone smarter than me replies to your problem
