Coil Stuff

So it's that time of year for tune ups, at least for me. Just replaced the valvepan gasket re painted the cover and the airfilter can. So i have a question.

I want to put in a new hi-po coil for more power maybe, better efficiency. I was thinking about getting a flame thrower II. Do i need anything else to go along with it or is it a pop in pop out type deal?

If you guys have used another brand that is better please explain why. I don't know much about them yet.

Did you know that some aftermarket ignitions run better with an OEM DSII stock coil ?

No Kidding

I could hardly believe it either.

Plus, with an aftermarket coil you will need a new keyed "power to coil" source.

hey mil1lion what set up is that? think it would work with a 300 6? seemes like my plug build up "normal" wear pritty fast. if that makes sence. it looks like normal wear but with crusted build up of normal wear. ive replaced my coil cap rotor ignition moduel distributer pick up coil voltage regulator plugs and wires rechecked my new ignition modual and the plugs still seem like they age fast(three sets of plugs in under a year). tryed autolight and motorcraft plugs and it doesnt make a difference. any ideas?

A hotter plug may help reduce deposits but unfortunately deposits come with age...

The standard OEM DS-II system works better than aftermarket stuff except for high RPM racing applications. Make sure you have a Motorcraft ignition module and mount it with 1/4" spacers to allow air to cool the underside of the module.

if youre talking about a 1979 (just a guess from the name) then factory it would have come with the duraspark 2- which as said is a good reliable ignition that only flakes out over about 5500 rpm. what part number is the plug youre using?

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:

I probably drive ~10,000 in this truck per year. I'm not having any problems i'm just trying to keep the engine clean and maybe get better efficiency.
