Water temp fluctuates
96 Explorer Sport/ 4wd/ 4.0 OHV/ Automatic

Why does my water temp fluctuate?
It moves between 1/4 to 3/4 of the gage range in just 10-15 secs. It moves up and down like this almost constantly after it reaches running temp. There are no indications of overheating.
This sounds like air in the cooling system to me so do I need to remove the top hose at the radiator and fill the block or something like this?<o></o>

I would also check the reclaim bottle. Fords have a habit of splitting at the seam. When they heat up and the pressure builds the seam opens and once the pressure is relieved it closes. This can cause air bubbles. I had a Taurus and Sable that had the same problem

Thanks, I'll replace the thermostat and see what happens.
I already checked water in radiator and overflow and I checked hoses for possible soft spot which could colapse. Water and hoses are good.
Preciate the suggestions.
