Not too long ago I got a 2002 lightning. It has been slightly modified. It has a steeda air intake. a borla exhaust. Now for the questions. It has a cam, I don't know what kind or what size, but it definetly has one. it has a lower pulley, i'm assuming 4 lb since that is the most popular and both my boost gauges read around 12. I don't know if it has had a chip in it. Someone said that if it did I would be able to see it. Others said that you could plug and play and leave no visible proof. the cover to the diagnostic port is not there. any idea how much power i might be pushing? I would like 500, but i'm super hopeful.
for more power, you going to have to do way more than that. the best system that will get you above 500HP is the twin screw whipple charger, just make sure you get all the required upgrades for it. ( fule system, bigger cooling system, msd ignition, and so on)
to help you save on the cost ( since the charger is $3500 ) find a buyer for your stock eaton charger first sell that and put it twards the new charger. youll be surprized on how much you can get for a stock charger. seeing that there $ 2800- $4000 depending on the dealer!!!
New bottom end? Too late. It just blew. everything bad has happened in the last 3 weeks. so it doesn't suprise me. however i have to sell it because of everything thats happened. i would build it up, but now i gotta set it right and let go. waited so long and now it has to go. I'm gonna miss it.
Did you ever find out if it had a tune/chip. If not then thats probably why it blew. A 4# pulley and no tune isn't very safe. Sucks about your luck though, sorry ya gotta get rid of it now.
A 4lb pulley and no tune is probably the safest you could ever be. The a/f will still be about 9 or 10 and there won't be any timing in it. When you chip it and it gets leaned out to about 12.5 and they add 5 or 6 degrees of timing is when it gets dangerous.
Hey Silver, I have a 6# pulley I haven't put on yet cause I thought I needed to get a tune at the same time. Are you saying that it would be OK to put it on ? I think I am running a little rich right now anyway due to my 170 thermostat and IAT resistor.(13mpg)
I also run a K&N and a catback, Thanks
There have been tons of people run a 6 lb pulley with not tune. The important thing is to check the a/f on the dyno to make sure you're still OK. If I put a 6lb pulley on my truck it would go kaboom on the stock tune because it runs really lean for a stock truck at about 13:1. Go over to www.nloc.net and do some looking. You'll find plenty of people that are running safely with a pulley and no tune.
I have an 01 lightning that is stock except for the intake. I am thinking of changing the SC to a screw type to increase efficiency and lower the noise. The truck is under 400HP and I do not want to go much over 400HP as I would like to drive it for some years to come. Any suggestions?
Ive got a set of ported heads with racing cams I could sell you. Id sell them for half and they only have 8,000 miles on them. They are JDM heads for a 01 Lightning. Plus Id throw in a set of 500 dollar aluminum polished valve covers for half too. That would be a whole lot less than a twin screw blower.
