Do they make a metric torx bit? While working on my trailer , I came across a torx head screw that is just a bit smaller that a t20 but bigger than the next smaller size. Nothing seems to fit. Do trailer makers use special screws so the average Joe can't do anything with them?
Torx are just Torx, no difference metric or english, just the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 10664. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx
I had to buy a set today that look like a set od allen wrenches.
All I wanted was an offset that had the T-25 on it.
$10. for a set of 9 wrenches, just to get 0ne.
A straight in wont fit.
A t15 is too small. It looks to have a extra point so it must not be a Torx bit. I took it to Ace hardware and they didn't have anything to fit it. It must be something that trailer makers use so the public can't work on it.
Are you deferring to a dimple in the middle of the STAR shaped screw/bolt ?
If so,that's a security feature.Requires a SPECIAL TORX bit.The idea is to keep every Tom,Dick,& Harry from messing with stuff.
Was it the bolt painted? I know the Torx head bolts on my Jeep were painted and there was just enough paint to make too tight for the proper torx bit, but the next size down was way too small. After pounding the torx bit in a couple times to clear the paint out it fit perfect.
If it has an extra point then you are looking for a star bit, that's not the propper name but that's what I call 'em, most of your foreign auto's are full of 'em.
They call it a triple square, which would be more than one more point as you stated. I believe now that your probably needing a tamper resistant bit. And as stated above, paint in the fastener will make it hard to get the bit in. Use a pick and get the paint out.
