Question Hood hinge spring replacement

I believe I've seen this question come up a couple times and maybe someone has a good thread out there. How difficult/dangerous is it to replace the coiled springs on the original 53-55 truck hood hinges? I've seen the springs for sale and that tool to use. I've got the original tired set of hinges stored away and have a newer set currently on the truck. The newer set is very tight and it requires pushing the back of the hood down because it's so tight. I've grease them but am starting to remember others talk about "strange hinges" that are reproductions that don't work as well as originals. Anyone redone theirs?

Thanks

I've redone mine with a set from Mid 50s. I don't know if theirs are the good ones or the bad ones, but they must be the good ones.
I spent the $ to buy the "tool", and in my case it really helped with the install.

I'm sure if you have a lot of time you can make a decent tool from junk around the garage.
