researched the streetmaster again and think I might go with it for the propane 400. Most that have used it liked it and it seemed to have had plenty of low end. I like the way it looks...like it will really feed the heads. I was wondering what the hole in the center of the plenum is all about.
I took apart the plate over the crossover and am wondering what the coil down in there is all about as well. Both edelbrock intakes have them. i also have a new weiand and the performer that came off the mod. the performer didn't fit as well.
I'm also using cortego (SP) intake gaskets and will cut the pan down to do so and drill holes to let oil drain...anything else there i should worry about?
Though I'm not too familiar with propane fed engines, other than driving forklifts everyday, but what kind of expense would one expect to drive, say 80 miles a day? gas at 2.99 costs 15 dollars a day on mine, so I'm wondering how much cost difference propane would net? Sorry, not the answer yer looking for.
(OT: Also thanks on the weld-thru primer comment. I W&G'd before spraying. Afterward, I'll prime the whole thing.)
I will buy propane at 1.69 gal. and run higher compression to help make up the difference in power. So I was able to build an engine using the oz heads, tim's pistons and probably about 9.5 compression with a very tight cam so I'm hoping for some decent mileage gains as well. the only other advantage is filling at home as I want, cleaner burn and longer engine life. the propane parts cost about 500 bucks more due to some deals I was able to make...so we'll see. if I don't like it i'll put a more aggressive cam so I can burn 87 and go from there...
gas will be 3.5 pretty soon as we sheep get further fleeced.

is this an EGR manifold? even if yours is not EGR, i think that's where the EGR is introduced into the plenum. they may have just cast the outside different for no EGR and left the inside the same.

sounds like a choke stove. some carbs have a vacuum passage that draws air from the clean side of the air filter, through the coiled tube in the crossover and into the choke bimetalic coil housing to heat it up and cause the choke plate to open.
