Think I found one

Hey guys I think I found the truck. It is a '03 CC lwb srw 4wd. It is a 7.3l and automatic. FX4 package. The truck does not appear to have been midified in any way. Also no 5th wheel or gn hitch ever been installed. Truck has 123k on it. These are my questions before I buy it. What do I need to do (or should I do) to the tranny in order to prep it for towing 15k lbs. Also, what kind of fuel mileage is possible out of this truck? I am considering an exhaust, intake, and maybe a programmer of some sort. I have been told to not even think of programming the truck at all due to auto tranny issues. If I do chip it, it will spend the majority of its life in a fuel mileage program. Any info is always appreciated. Thanks

A BTS valve body will go a long way to helping the tranny cope wit extra power. www.brianstruckshop.com they also make a bulletproof 4R100
intake a 6637 or AIS if you want it quiet.

Programmer - www.dp-tuner.com he work magic with the shifting and really get the power to the ground without causing alot of slip and wear in the tranny

Exhaust - anything from a muffler delete to a 4" down pipe and 5" straight pipe.

I average in the low 16's for mileage

That's what we all said until you put your foot in a good tune. After that, it's all over. You'll never want to drive the truck in stock tune again. Mark my words.

BTW, good luck with the purchase. Get good gauges.

Is it an XLT? How much are they asking? I paid $19,500 for that exact same truck (same miles and everything)back in Dec 06'.

thanks for the info guys, and yamaguy, It is an XLT and does sound like the exact same truck as yours. I am not completely sure what the dealer is asking, he "thought" he was at $21,500. The internet shows him at $23,000. HA HA. If I decide to buy it, depending on what he says his price is, I will not pay more than $19,000 even for it. I have priced it out on KBB and it comes to 19,500. Anywho, thanks for the info fellas, and continue dropping the lines.

To be completely honest, towing 15k pounds, the transmission even in stock power form is not going to hold up to that. I would start out with gauges, an exhaust brake, and then go for the $4000 BTS transmission and larger 6.0 cooler. Once you get that out of the way, you won't have to worry about the transmission going out ever again.
