2000 7.3. I could really use some help. The dealer has run the codes and has completed the engine test with no problems. The truck occassionally acts fine but, itermittently has no peddle reponse. If you floor the accerator nothing happens for 5 maybe 8 seconds then the turbo spools and thruck takes off. I know this is more than a turbo lag issue. Temperature seems to have no effect on the problem. Also I am running a superchips programmer set at 100 hp. Even at stock setting the problem is much worse. New fuel filter, good fuel pressure, turbo compressor fins in good shape. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Can you elaborate on the no response part? ie is it trying to move but just doesn't have the guts or is it like you never push the pedal then all of a sudden it is off?
it seems like the turbo just went on vacation for a few minutes then comes alive. You try to accelerate and nothing happens, then 5 seconds later the engine responds to the pedal
Well if it is turbo lag and you are putting the pedal down, you will get black smoke. Does it do it most of the time or just part? I am wondering if your pedal is the problem and not actually sending the throttle position. Have you check the wires going to the pedal?
No black smoke, but the engine reponds to pedal input just no power. Last weekend I was trying to back a trailer up a slight incline, floored the truck but no turbo response or power. After letting off the pedal and flooring it again the turbo kicked in and I could back up the trailer. (note slight incline, a four cyclinder would accomplish this)
That is the exactly way my problem started out a year ago. It would come and go with long intervels in between until early this year. Finally got bad enough to start throwing codes and nearly left me stranded. Wound up being the IPR. Replaced it and the ICP sensor and have missed a beat since.
Today I tryed to take off from a stop sign and floored it. Of course the usual slow acceleration for 5+ seconds and then the power finally kicked in. When the pedal is floored you don't get any black smoke. Could someone elaborate on the IPR and the ICP
The IPR is mounted on the bottom rear drivers side of the HPOP (high pressure oil pump). The ICP is mounted on the drivers side High pressure oil rail. Both control the high pressure oil system. Either will cause a code (usually 1211= a few others) if they get too far out of range.
Thanks for the info. I checked the codes again and got p0407-ebpv circuit failure. I don't know if this could cause the problem but I just changed the tube 6 months ago
Check to see if the EBPV rod is still hooked up to the valve. My buddies Excursion had the same exact problem and we found the actuator rod had come off of the valve, allowing the valve to close whenever it felt like it. We hooked it all back up and the problem went away.
I had a similar problem happen to me. Merging on the freeway at about 65 I let off the pedal to slow down some, and then pressed the pedal to come up to speed to merge and nothing!! I looked down at my tach after pressing the pedal repeatedly and by now coasting at about 50 the truck was idleing. I tried it agian pumping the pedal agian and nothing. By now maybe 40 and the truck all of a sudden took off after trying it agian like nothing ever happend.. No codes either.. HUM. Maybe the TPS? This is the second time this has happend to me in the last year..I have no idea where to began. Thanks Country..
Countrycar - that does sound like a TPS but as intermittent as yours is try cleaning the connector with contact cleaner
bobjones113 - if the backpressure valve is closeing when it shouldn't that could cause you symptoms. The valve could be sticking in the outlet, actuator could be sticking, rod could be mis adjusted, solenoid could be bad, or shorts in wiring.
Thank-you Amiller I now have a place to start from. I will check those tomorrow. Just got abck from Wrestling Practice I'm gonna have a Beer BBQ and relax today.Thankyou. Country
