fuel leak
My 94 Explorer XLT has a fuel leak somewhere above the gas tank. I can't tell exactly where the gas is leaking from but I can see it when I look at the tank through the rear driver's side wheel well. It looks like its coming from somewhere above the tank and running down the side. I think I will have to remove the skid plate and drop the gas tank to be able to find whats leaking. If I drop the tank will the fuel lines drop with it? It leaks the most when the engine is running. Any ideas of what may be leaking would be appreciated. Thanks

The lines coming out of the top of the fuel pump assembly are steel, and it isn't unheard of for them to corrode through and develop leaks. They leak most when the engine is running because the fuel system is under pressure. I would agree with you that your next step is probably to drop the tank and see what you find. The fuel lines will allow the tank to drop enough so that you can get in there and disconnect the fittings. When I've dropped my tank, I've just followed the procedure in Haynes/Chiltons and found them to be adequate.
