Here we have a '98 with the 5.4L, 104000 miles. The truck had started being difficult to start, (start-die, start-die, start-run). It did it the other day and after about 10-15 attempts it finally started and idled. When it start-dies you can keep it running by using the throttle. Remove the throttle and it dies. It only used to do it when it was cold, now it does it when it's warm. After all this, I have no codes.
Several sensors come to mind. I was thinking the MAF is bad but if it was, it wouldn't run at all, right?
I'd change the IAC instead of cleaning it. I cleaned mine once & it still quit about 2 wks later. Mine is pita to remove so I'll always change it from now on.
Not in stock! I had removed one bolt (almost lost new 8mm ratchet wrench under intake) and decided to get the part before removing it. It is not an easy one to get to.
