I have a rear seal leaking on my 66 F100 240 3 spd. The question I have,do you have to replace the bearing and keeper or can you just replace the seal? The seal looks like a seal used as a grease seal in the front wheel bearing.
I dont know if I am doing this right as I have read this form for years but have never posted a question. Thanks for your help
fletch, You can just replace the seal. I suggest that you check out the vent block on the axle tube where the brake lines separate. (there once was a rubber hose attached to it) You may have to hand twist a drill bit in the hole to clear any dirt dobber blockage that could be in it. That vent being blocked can cause extra pressure in the tube and make the seal fail.
Are you asking about the rearend or are you talking about the motor? If you are asking about the motor then,
On your 240 engine I would take a look at the engine main bearing and make sure there is not any sign of wear on that rear bearing, It should be replaced if there is. While you have the pan off I would inspect all the bearings for wear since you need to have the crank lose to change the rear main seal.

Iam sorry I didn't make myself clear. Iam talking about the rearend. The truck was my dads which he bought new and then was stored outside for 20 years and I think that is why the seal broke down. The truck only has 46000 miles on it so I don't think the bearings are bad. I will have to replace the brakelinings.
