Transfer case ID

Hey guys. I picked up a 77 F250 2wd crew cab and it came with most of the parts (axles, leafs, tranny, T-case, x-members, etc.) off a 4wd truck in he bed.
I'm just trying to figure out what the T-case and tranny are. Looks like a divorced T-case, built by Dana. I'm not good w/ 4wd stuff though so I have no clue other than that.

Pics can be found in my crew cab gallery.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The Ford transfer case tag number is on the left side of the case on a metal tag. A portion of the number will contain: 7A195.

Sample: D7TA-7A195-AA

The trans tag is also on the left side of its case. Depending on a manual or auto, the ID number could be either: sample: PKB-AA for an auto, or sample: D7TR-7006-AA for a manual.

I thought you were saying there was another tag - besides the one I had a pic of in my gallery.

I the pic I had was of the only tag - then I guess I only have to dig for the tag on the tranny.

Anything more you can tell me about the transfer case (model #) from that number? Or do you know a place I could look it up?

I'm just trying to see how this thing compares in strength to a NP 203 or 205

Bill says it's a case out of highboy, and you say it's divorced, so it must be an NP 205.

Good find.

That's what I wanted to hear!

It was funny - I brought my new purchase (77 crew cab 2wd) home and it had a nasty, old camper shell on it with all the 4wd parts loaded in the back. I finally got the camper shell off and all my buddies started looking at the parts. One guy said "that looks like a 2wd tranny", which made me look a little closer at the T-case and tranny. The tranny has a U-joint yoke on the end of the tailstock, and the T-case was at the other end of the bed with a U-joint yoke coming out of either side. Certainly makes me think it's divorced - but then again I'm new at this big 4wd stuff

Andym, the parts catalog only says what the T/C fits, not what type it is.

Blame Ford for that, I guess they figured then that no one cared.

There were only 4 transfer cases used on 1964/72 Ford trucks, one was a Rockwell-Timken used in F600's. The others were Spicers (Dana).

New Process and Dana are two different companies, so with the Dana ID, it can't be a New Process.

OP: I looked at gallery pics after I typed the first post.

Sorry Bill, you're right. I was under the impression that all highboys had NP 205 cases. I didn't know that any of them had Dana cases.
