I dont have a code reader but a shop checked and said it was a bad TPS but I would need to buy a hole new foot feed to get the TPS and that is going to be around 300-400 bucks. does any of this sound right to you?
I had to replace mine too. But that price sounds high. I think mine was around $200. It is about a 10 minute fix at the outside. You might try ebay or a bone yard.
B4 you buy a TPS you need to check your (Vehicle Speed Sensor/Rear Antilock Brake Sensor) VSS/RABS on the top of the rear differential. Remove it an clean off the crud you find. Look at the pins and socket for corrosion, bent broken pins ect. Pull #9 fuse under the hood to reset the PCM and see if the flashing OD light goes out.
Beside the OD light flashing what other symptoms does it exibit. Is it shifting hard, hanging shifts ect.
If it's still acting up after you do the above, remove the TPS and clean the wires/slider with electrical cleaner. TPS is a potentiometer.
I can reset it and it works for about a week then it starts up again. while it is flashing the trans does shift hard.
I just talked to the great Ford stealership and they said it was $392. and that I had to get the whole assy which sucks. I am going to reset it again and try to find a cheaper one if the above tricks don't pan out.
OK so anyone know a good place to get a TPS for my truck? the parts stores where I checked do not carry the right one for my 97 the one they carry has the wrong plug and is made to go under the hood and not on the foot feed. I hope someone knows where to get one.
