While out driving my F350 SD diesel 4x4 manual transmission, with the windows down I picked up a loud rattle coming from the front end. I got out and grabbed the manual wheel locking hubs and found them loose on both wheels. So I took an allen wrench and tried to tighten them up. No go! All the bolts where tight. So what gives? Am I missing a gasket or something? No leaks or oil stains anywhere. It steers and tracks fine.
They are aftermarket hubs with either MM or WW casted on the outer surface.
Any idea as to what is happening? Are they toast? I'm new to 4x4 front ends.
Art, I'm new to this too so be patient. I'd recommend jacking the nose and looking at the hubs. I've seen a bunch of posts on here about bearings needing attention.
BTW, welcome to the forums! I'm new to diesels and have found the site to be a great source of info.
Not sure if the Mile Marker hubs are held in by a large snap ring like the OEM auto hubs or not. If so, I would give the outside of the hub a tap with a mallet to make sure the hub is in all the way and the snap ring is completely seated.

There is an issue with the Warn hubs where the snap-ring groove is machined too big and the Warn snap ring doesn't completely hold the hub still - so they rattle.
I'd think the MM hubs could suffer from the same issue.
Call/email MM and see what they say. I contacted Warn about the issue and in 2 days I had additional snap-rings in my mailbox. No proof of purchase required with Warn.

Before you replaced that snap ring, did your rattling noise go away when your hubs were locked/engaged?
Mine does, and i'm wondering if maybe the fix you got is the same problem i have.
