well this is what happens, lets say i rev it to about 3,000 rpm's.. now what happens is it stays at 3,000 rpms when i'm off the gas so i tap the gas about 2 or 3 times witch brings it back to idle, also sometimes it likes to idle a bit higher than it should at like 1,500 rpms, so what i'm wondering is what causes the problem and possibly what could i do to fix this problem! btw the truck is standard if that would make a difference and the adjustments are a bit different because it is on propane sooo this could be a tough one to figure out
Well the first obvious question would be to ask if your throttle cable is sticking. Next time the engine revs up to 3000 and sticks, stick your head under the dash and look at where the gas pedal assembly connects to the throttle cable, its pretty obvious what you're lookin for. If there appears to be an excess of throttle cable extending out past the metal gas pedal extension then you can rest assured your throttle cable is sticking.
Other than that, maybe the TPS or IAC are going bad. Check the throttle cable for sticking first and then take it from there.
its not my throttle cable cable sticking cuz i've reved it from the motor and the cable didn't stick at all neither did the gas pedal, is there anyway of checking my TPS or IAC to see if it is going bad?
yeah i have a Haynes manual, so i assume i should look it up in there haha. well i'll look into it and thanks for the help. if it could be anything else just keep on posting!
yeah me neither its really different from gas but thats how she came and thats how its gunna stay haha, well i'll take a good look at it all tomorrow its just minor compared to some of the other stuff i gotta do to it
The only way a motor will rev like that is if there is excess air getting into the motor. Take the intake plumbing off the TB and watch the butterfly valves, chances are they are not returning to the fully closed position when the throttle is released. If they do follow the linkage then you have a major air leak somewhere.. EGR, TB gasket, or intake gasket.
What year is it? It does sound like a TPS issue to me as well. You also need to check your LPG regulator, it might be going bad and causing an over fueling issue. With it running on propane it also changes the timing curve. It's a complicated system with a lot if quirks. It might be time to convert it back to gas only.
the truck is a 88 F250 and i'm not interested in changing it back to gas because it has nothing left over at all from the gas system and i dont think it would be worth all the time, effort, and money to switch it back, its alot easier just to buy a different truck if i wanted to put it back to gas
