Still leaking. need advice here
I took it to a local shop (the one my warrenty company C.A.R.S. sent me to). They replaced the head gaskets, removed the smog pump and crap that went with it (pump failing, so it was bypassed to save time and $$$), machined the heads, oil change, welded the exhaust manifold (again to save time, because none were available local for 2-4 weeks), EGR replaced. Mind you it's been back to the shop 2 MORE times so they could fix things that they forgot to do, like change the oil for real, reconnect a few vacum lines, and of course putting the horn BACK in the truck (don't ask why it was removed for this work). I took it to the local Ford dealership, they wouldn't touch it because of my warrenty at the first place
. All they did was open the hood and shake thier heads, saying "you didn't do this did you?".Anyways, it's leaking a decend amount of oil from the front half of the engine. Which it didn't start doing till AFTER the work was done. I have to add a quart a week to it, and the idiots at the shop, who are responsible for the next 12months or 12,000 miles on the engine say it's "fine, and needs an oil change again". The oil is FINE, infact it's pretty much self renewing because it leaks so bad. It also runs poorly now. Rattling pretty bad.
My question is: How do I handle this? I don't want the same morons messing with it, and the Ford dealership won't take it without me fronting a ***** load of $$$ while voiding my warrenty at the first place.
PS if you live in the Metro Detroit area NEVER take any vehicle, not even a Ch*vy to Jolly's Auto in Berkley, they'll just make it worse.
I would suggest that you clean the hell out of the engine and look for the leak. There are oil leak additives (available from snap-on) that will show a new leak in color. If it is the "front" half of the engine (V-8 ?) areas that could leak could be....timing chain cover, valve cover gaskets, or intake manifold pan. These would all create a "front oil leak".
Get hold of your consumer affairs / better business people and maybe a good lawyer and create all the grief and havoc you can for your repair (?) facility.
good luck....
Lawyer told me that I've given them the state mandated second chance to fix it (which they didn't do, they just made it worse). Now I can take it anywhere, including the Ford dealership, and the first garage is legally responsible for picking up the bill, paying for a rental car, and refunding the $$$ for the original repairs (since they weren't done right).
I know my friends landscaping company is going to be going after them too. The transmision in his silverado went out AGAIN, and it's been 2 months since they started "rebuilding" the engine on his F150, which hasn't moved from behind the place.
wonder what they'll rename the place after it's put out of business?
New kick in the pants, the guy that owns the first garage also sells used cars. he offered to give me $2000 for my truck! Said it was "not worth that much because of the abuse the engine has seen".
