OIL Pressure problem

The other day my red ck gague light came on while driving to work. I look all seamed to be OK A couple of days later it came on a couple times when I looked oil pressure gague droped to O But recovered right away now it did it about 10 times today If I goose the throttle it jumps right back up. On my delivery route today I was at a ford dealer Talked to a service rep & mechanic they said it could be the ICP sensor. Anybody have this happen or can help me out This is a 7.3 with 44,000 miles

Stay away from that mechanic. The oil light and gauge is on the low pressure side of the system and it means the oil pressure in the HPOP reservoir dropped below 6 psi. Could be a bad EOP sensor, Old oil, or the LPOP could be heading south.

Where do I start? First off, the tech you talked to just revealed how clueless he is to our motors. The pressure gauge on your dash only reads the low pressure. The ICP is for the high pressure running the injectors. Your dash gauge has nothing to do with the ICP at all.

Second, you're not really losing all the pressure. That "sensor" is really just a switch that will read zero at anything below 7 psi. Anything above that and it reads normal. I think it's dumb to put a gauge in there that will only read normal or nothing...in addition to a light too! If you were really dropping pressure to zero, the truck would quit running completely because the injectors wouldn't have oil available to run them.

My guess is your sensor has gone bad. It's a cheap part available at NAPA. Try replacing the sensor first because it's cheap and easy.

I had a similar problem on mine and ended up installing an actual oil pressure gauge to see what was going on. I had plenty of pressure (15-20 psi) when the gauge dropped to zero. Mine only happened when the oil was really hot (above 240 degrees) and only when the truck was at idle. A sensor replacement cured my problem, but I ended up using a sensor from an '95 truck...that's what BTS suggested to use with their pump setup.
