Sanding Paint

Hi all. My truck has two coats of paint and primer on it. The factory applied job and a sloppy second color. Is it possible to sand down to the factory color and then reprime and shoot new color on top of that? Or is it better to take it all off and start over fresh? Will it cause inconsistencies in my color? Thanks for shedding some light on this for me.

go ahead and hit the paint with 150 grit on your DA, you might not want to go all the way to the bare metal because you could wind up with adhesion problems with the paint and primer...some of the factory paint or primer would be a good base to put your primer onto. Just remember that the primer is the base for a good looking truck, take your time, block and sand, make sure that it is all smooth...as you get closer to painting, increase your sandpaper count, 320, 500, 2000...etc..

bodyshops blend within panels all the time, they feather the color out...I have seen a truck go from being grey in the front to being blue in the rear and you could not even tell when or where the change was because of the feathering.

Just my $.02, spend it or leave it.

Good luck!
