Anyone know the color code around/under the cab (and where to locate that wire) for the third brake light? Adding a Recon light, and don't want to use the turn signals functionality- just "all on" for brakes and this seems the easiest way to do it.

Are you talking about the light on the cab? The recon 3rd brakelight is plug and play
I am talking about the brake light on the top, back of the cab- what color/where feeds that?
The Recon is really cool and it was designed and built to mirror the tail, left, and right lights. I prefer to use it differently- I only want it to come (solid) on if I am braking and I want the entire bar lighted (solid) if I am braking and have a turn signal going. As is, half the bar flashes with the turn signal. By going to the third brake light, it will do what I want. Make sense?

Then just cut the plug off, and dont wire the turn signals...Easy

Doesn't work that way dude- though I wish!
The Recon has 4 connections; Ground, Tail, Left and Right- just like a 4 pole trailer plug;
- Tail lights up a dim steady all across the bar.
- Left lights the left half of the bar
- Right lights the right half (there is no "all").
The only steady brake light power is that third brake light on the cab. With one's foot on the brake and, say the left turn signal going, the truck brake light is solid on the right as is the third brake light; but flashes the Left (which would flash the left half of the Recon). I guess what I am doing a poor job saying is there is no "steady" brake light feed at the back of the truck, that stays steady without regard to a turn signal use.
In any case- back to my original request; anyone know what color and where that third brake light feed is? Many thx!
^^^i don't think he understands what kind of light you have. is your truck wired for a trailer harness? if so, just grab the brake feed there. o
your other option is to wire in a relay with some diodes. this would keep you from having to run a wire all the way up in to the cab.
Yeah, head scratched on that too; I don't see how to make that circuit work without the entire bar flashing (at best) when either turn signal is activated (with no brake) Riggz???
you would wire the hot leads from both left and right brake/turn signal wires into their own diode then into coil of the relay. kind of hard to explain. check this out to explain how diodes work. http://www.the12volt.com/diodes/diodes.asp
if you need pm me and i'll try and draw you a diagram.
I know how diodes work. Keep thinking about it- as you describe above, the Recon will flash with either turn signal active (and no brake) and go solid only when the brake is applied (and it will stay solid with the brake on and a signal active). We're close- but I want it to go/stay solid with the brake, regardless of signal activation, and not do anything unless the brake is pressed.
I don't think that you will find the 3rd brake light wire in the underbody harness as there's no reason for it to be there. I believe that you would have to go into the cab for it. Years ago there a was a cheap module at the autoparts used to install a 3rd brake light into a car that did not come with it from the factory. This module would do exactly what you want to do.
I understand what he's trying to ask. I thought I read on here about a wire near the bumper that could be wired up to a 3rd brake light for a camper shell type install. Without having to tap an existing brake/blinker light (which as a third brake light is ANNOYING). I'll try to find it...
I found it... I'll just quote it for you. The Center-High-Mount-Stop-Light circuit has it's own wire in the back... Hope this helps. I think all or our SD's have this wire BTW.

I have the camper package, but I think that there is a wire for a brake light on all the Super Duties.
On my truck, it was sticking out of the main tail light harness. There is a main chase of wires that comes out on the dirver's side frame rail at the back of the truck. It turns toward the passenger side. About halfway across near the bumper, there is a series of wires near the trailer connector. Several wires had little tags on mine and were sealed with wax. One had a BRAKE LIGHT label on it. I think it was light green. Other trucks have CHMSL as a label. I'd tap into that, because it's a lot less work.
I can't guarantee you have this wire, because it may be camper package only, but it's worth a try IMO. Good luck!
