The gas gauge on my 87 Bronco is pegged (about 90 dgerees) way past the "full" mark. Is this a pooched sending unit, bad ground, or? What can I check prior to dropping the tank?

mine was the same way i had to go to the dealer and buy a new fuel assembly for the tank, and it comes all in one piece, float screen, the works, it fixed mine.
