had the solenoid replaced fluid and filter,it acts ok,shifting fine, the mechanic said there was some cluth material in the pan.sounded bad but it pulls good and is shifting good, just worries me for the long run.any feed back would be appreaciated.
I have 61000 miles on the truck, the teck said he had not done enough of these new transmissions to say one way or another. He told me to drive it and be attentive to how it feels, and we would go from there. It 's hard to say what to do trying not to waste money on a full rebuild when it drives pretty good.Thats wy I put it out on a thread to get more input from the tecks.
get a suncoast kit. they seem to have the best kit for the torqshift. ask npccpartsman how happy he is with his.
The suncoast is ok--nice kit and shifts very nice, but John Wood has come to be known for his torqshift expertice and builds tranny's for lots of the race guys. I think he only uses Ford parts from what I'm told.
BLKFX4, automatic trannies are pretty much all or nothing when rebuilt. Meaning if you are seing signs of abnormal wear at 61K, by all means definatly it should come out of the truck and get torn down. It will be very cheap to rebuild it before something tears up. If you wait till it craps out, you will wind up having to replace a bunch of stuff that may be good, but contaminated with what failed, and no way to really clean and gaurentee it. If your not planning on modding, I see no reason to upgrade from stock components, as it will force you to use a very good full synthetic trans fluid in Mercon SP.(albeit expensive) THe torqshift is just about bulletproof from Ford. We have heard of very few problems out of these trans on this forum, barring the snapring fiasco, I think you would be #5. That is very encouraging news (not necessarrily for you) to only have 5 problem trannies reported here in almost 5 years. Fluid and filter changes are the life of the tranny, as goes with any automatic.
She's headed for the ford delership tommorrow for a new transmission,3,7050.00 dolllars.36 month 75,000 mile warranty,it grieves my wallet.Does this price sound high or about right?
