2003 6.0L Excursion 4X4

You that pit in your stomach when you think something is wrong and it is probably your fault? Here is my sad story...

I bought a used 2003 6.0L Excursion 4X4 with 53K miles last week. We love it. It is my first diesel, room for the kids, and the wife thinks it is easier to drive due to the seat settings than the 05 Expedition we traded in. We were very hesitant to buy this vehicle because it was a buyback "lemon" from Ford. They said they fixed all the issues and offered an extended warranty. The price was right for the X and for the trade in so we bought it. I checked the lemon law here in CA and from what I read, even a used vehicle under warranty from a dealer, has the same buyback "opportunity" as a new vehicle.

We have put about 1000 miles on it an really like. Today driving it home, I think I felt the demons. I was stopped at the light, turned green, the X hesitated, then about 2000rpms it started to surge, and I heard a noise below my feet in conjunction with the surges. I looked that the RPMs and it was bouncing. I let off the gas, it stopped, gave it gas, surges started, then I put my food into and it went away. No Check Engine light went on.
<O</O

I called the dealer and spoke to the service manager and he said to monitor it and see if it happens again. He asked if the check engine light came on, how much fuel I had, and if the vehicle was cold (I was driving about 80 miles prior it this happening). Is this the issue that is causing all the problems with this engine or is this just a fluke, newbie issue? I honestly am feeling sick that I made the wrong choice but we really like this vehicle and engine. We are taking our travel trailer to Yellowstone</ST1lace in June and I am concerned about this issue. Any advice would be great. Thank you.<O

see if you can get it to repeat the issue and then see if you notice anything particular that will help the dealer. more than likely it is the icp sensor leaking oil just enough to short out the readings.

Make sure you continue to advise the dealer of any problems and also keep written records since it will be of benefit if you claim that the vehicle is still a "Lemon". You could also find a reputable mechanic for a second opinion. Good Luck. Our 2003 has been great.
