I was talking with a wheel store about putting some 17x10 wheels with 5" backspacing on my 07 f-150. I am planning on putting 33-12.50-17 on. I have the leveling kit on the front, so the 33's would have plenty of clearance. The store says that putting 17x10 would cause rubbing. I thought that was why they have backspacing on the wheels , to eliminate any problems with rubbing. Which one of us is right? Any help would be appreciated.

Backspacing will help stop rubbing on the frame, but more backspacing does make the wheel/tire swing in a bigger arc, which may mean it hits the fender or bumper. 33's with a 5.5" backspacing on a 9" wheel seems to be pretty common. You are talking about a 5" backspacing which means the wheel is out an additional .5", plus a 10" wheel which means another 1" sticking out - 1.5" total...that is starting to get pretty wide. Maybe someone running this combo will chime in, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did rub a little.
