Technically no, but yes they will work if you do not want to build an engine over 450ish hp. On the 1994-1998 trucks, they had no supporting webs between the cylinder bores and the push rod areas. The newer blocks have webs there to strengthen the blocks. If you are wanting to pull the accesories off a 96 and use it in the 2000, that will be fine. Remember to swap injectors, high pressure oil pump, and the fuel system. Reminds me, that the earlier trucks use a cam-driven mechanical fuel pump in the valley. May have to install a freeze plug in there.

So youre wanting to put a 1996 engine in it? What part of the engine is bad? If you can't salvage the parts listed, and they arent in tip-top shape, i personally wouldn't do the deal to be honest. Unless that 96 engine is in mint condition with LOW miles.

What's bad on the engine? If it's garbage say so and give the specifics on the truck. Tranny is probably right behind it.

I was reading on ebay a motors and i found two in my area one was long block the other was a short block, both of them had bent rods on the owner said they still would run, but would take awhile to start. So if he correct, the motor could have bent rods and still run.

Do you have any real experience with high hp psd's or just a keyboard racer? Mine (97 block) was holding well over 600 on spray just fine til a hg let go.

Dude, I know a guy one time that replaced his entire engine just because it had a "knock". He didn't even take the trouble to diagnose what was wrong, he just replaced it. I took his old motor and busted it open. All that was wrong was it dropped an injector. If it runs, hopefully it is something simple for this truck as well.

I would see what the truck looks like, then try to establish a fair market value as if the truck were running properly. Next, I would knock 6k off that price to get estimated value as is(since the seller is advertising it as a bad engine, run with it). This assumes you would turn the wrenches to fix it yourself, since 6k only includes parts, not labor. For labor, shoot for 10k if you send it to a dealer. Compare these numbers to what the guy is asking and see if they jive. If they do, I would say roll with it. If he is asking too much, you can use your numbers for negotiating material.

Now WHO would want to do something like that?

Luke, what do you think? Being 17 and paying my way in life it gives me the ability to have basically unlimited funds, one PSD is set up for pulling and the other is a 10 second drag truck in a Lightning chassis.

I just learn things from reading here on FTE and on TDS, and apparently i was wrong?
