I know not a whole lot of you are audiophile fans, but my dad wanted the subwoofer in his truck after he heard mine. So... I bought it for him, under the assumption that his lariat would be ready for it. By ready I mean, the wiring and harnesses are all installed and waiting for the device. Well I was wrong!
So we call the dealership today to inquire about purchasing the required wires and connectors. They called back an quoted us.... $1,000. FOR WIRES AND CONNECTORS! I was stunned. Its cheaper to get the option before you buy WITH the subwoofer. So Im stuck.... where can I get the required hardware to help my dad???
I would look under the carpet, the wires may still be there. They are on mine, at least I’ve seen them running through the harness in that direction, and I don’t have the sub. There isn’t a neat little hole cut in mine for it though, but I assume it’s there.
We checked pretty thoroughly, and we even pulled the head unit out of the dash to see if the connector was loose back there. No dice. The hole is there underneath the seat in the back, but now wires in the area.
Hmm, then you have a bit of a problem, I guess first does the head unit have the plug for it? You may end up having to wire it from scratch. I’m sure the dealer wants to charge you for a whole new part of the harness just to get the added wires.
What year Lariat does your Pops have? If the harness was/is there it includes ground for the sub and signal +/-. Keep in mind if you do find it, it's only for signal and not amplified. However, if your head unit doesn't have the harness location, it's kinda a moot point. It would be easy to run power and an inline converter to power that sub you got.
He has an 05. He has a head unit that supports the subwoofer, and from what we can tell, (mind you we both are very novice at electrical/stereo stuff) there are no wires running from the stereo to the hole thats cut in the carpet.
So, can we make our own harness? or will it not plug into the subwoofer?
Take it to some place like circuit city. I got my entire system there. They everything I needed right in the store. There wasn't a single wire left stock. The only thing left stock is the head unit. All the components you would need plus the install if you want shouldn't be more than 500 or 600 bucks. Thats just a guess, but my grand total for everything needed and my install was $1700. Most of that is amps and speakers + plus the subwoofer.

I don't know what model truck you're talking about but my new '07 came stock from the factory with only a single CD/Satellite head unit....... no audiophile or subwoofer.
I now have a 6 CD/Satellite head unit with Audiophile mounted where the original one was and there was the connector and harness that will connect to the subwoofer under the back seat of my '07 F150 Screw.
