This is from the air show last weekend at Langley AFB. After seeing these maneuvers in person, the video really doesn't do the aircraft justice.
The demonstration was put together in three weeks, from paper to air show, and was the first performance of the of the F-22 East Coast Demonstration team.
I was surprised by the amazing LOW speed capabilities! I actually machined some prototype titanium castings for the F-22 when I had my machine shop- I don't know if any of them made it into actual aircraft, though.
Man, that pilot made that plane DANCE! I've never seen some of that stuff in a jet-powered aircraft before--only in older stunt props. The stall maneuvers would get him killed in any other fighter jet in the world. Amazing.
I'm quite impressed by the Sukhoi every time I see it. They're coming out with an excellent regional jet as well, I do hope it will get some US orders so we can see it on this side of the pond.
I remember when they were first demonstrating the F-22's combat capabilities, head to head against I believe it was six F-14s at the same time, it got a confirmed lock on all six without every appearing on their radar. Quite impressive.
What's even more impressive is watching these manuevers, then seeing the planes in person up close. No one seems to realize just how big an F-14, F-22, F-18, or even an F-16 is until they get next to them. They're quite large and most of them weigh in excess of 30 thousand pounds. Reflects nothing but good on the pilot and the designer of the airframe.
we had some f-15's come on my base for a pit stop along with its refueling escorts in greece. also some b-1b's and a-10's came through also with various other transport planes.
i must say, nothing in the world is louder than being next to a b1 throttling it up to take off, i thought my insides were going to explode.
